With the government trying to keep children active with 5 hours of sporting activity per week, have you ever thought about introducing the Olympic sport of Judo as one of your sporting activities into your school?

1st4judo has been conducting judo sessions within schools in the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area since 2008 and can offer various types of sessions, to meet the needs of the school. These include:- Breakfast Club, Lunchtime Club, After School Club, Taster Sessions, Curriculum Sessions & Holiday Clubs.

We life the idea of having judo in School, but...?

Do we need to buy Judo mats?

No, the mats are provided. These are 1m x 1m x 40mm jigsaw mats, and can be made into an area of 7m x 7m.

Do the pupils need Judo suits?

No, pupils can wear their school PE kit (jogging bottoms recommended). If they would like to purchase a kit, these are available at a reasonable price.

What qualifications does the coach have?

The coach hold a British Judo Association (BJA) Level 2 coaching certificate. To achieve this certificate the coach must have a First Aid qualification, an enhanced DBS check, and a scUK Safeguarding certificate.

Is the coach insured?

Holders of a BJA coach award have Public Liability Insurance  cover.

Are the pupils insured?

Yes, if they are being taught by a BJA qualified coach. If pupils join the BJA they will have their own insurance cover. Pupils who haven't joined the BJA, and the school has authorised the activity they are covered through the Local Education Authority (LEA).

How does payment work?

All Sessions are invoiced after each block.

OSH Club sessions where parents are paying, these are paid for in advance (half-termly).

How much does the sessions cost?


£4 per pupil (parents paying)

This includes all travel costs, set up time, mats, coaching time and break down time.

How many pupils can take part?

The maximum would be 20 pupils, but for taster sessions this would be a normal class size.
